So all jeans are too long for me, but I will not roll them up because it looks freakin' bad. What is the answer to this dilemma? Can we get them hemmed? That can't look good.

shoulder pads in t-shirts

At the bookstore the other day, as I was buying a fabulous overpriced British design magazine, I noticed that the woman who was ringing up my purchase was stuck in some kind of awful 80's style vacuum! She had spiky white blonde hair that stood several inches above her head, and she was wearing a long, dumpy jean skirt and a white T-shirt with shoulder pads in it. Ew! She also had one of those voices that can only be formed by decades of chain-smoking. Ew again!

How is it that people get stuck in such ruts? I guess we all do it to some degree, but some are more oblivious to their fashion-deprived ways!

Please do not wear t-shirts with shoulder pads. Save the pads for jackets and more structured garments, ones that will not show the obvious puffy support perched upon your shoulders.

Do guys with that phones clipped to their belts make them look important? I think it looks stupid, and my suggestion would be to get the phone of the belt in a hurry, and while doing so, untuck that ugly polo shirt from your shorts. :-)

Just in time for halloween!

"This moldy, desiccated handbag ($1280) by Brooklyn design duo Be&D (Britney's a fan!) shares many spooky attributes with Boris Karloff's 1932 creation, the Mummy. However, while both bag and mummy have had most of their internal organs removed and should immediately be sealed in a remote tomb, only the Be&D features a sensual suede lining and a magnetic snap closure."

I feel people should dress their age and that includes DRAGQUEENS

this "woman" had to have been about 70. she had on a tight sleeveless pin blouse wiht ruffles on the sleeve. a plastic pink purse with the playboy bunny on it. a gray mini (and i do mean MINI) skirt and some grey pinstriped heels. her "hair" was shoulder length and red.

it just didnt look right and it really looked like something someone younger should be wearing. dont get me wrong. i have nothing against drag queens or older people but it looks creepy when someone older tries to dress "young".

kudos to her though because this was in braod daylight at my doctors apt.

Culottes For Spring?!?! JUST DON'T DO IT!!!

I've been seeing culottes -- one of my all-time never-ever-wear offending clothing items, on some sites showing spring trends and clothing lines. They are never flattering! The swingy fabric between the legs is just too much -- wear a skirt if you want all that swishing. I'm okay with gauchos because they're kind of like capris crossed with tailored pants (both styles being favorites), but culottes must be banned!!!

So we watched a TAPE (yes a tape) of some old Sonny & Cher performances. (I know I know ). Granted the show took place in the 70's but some of the fashion that was supposed to be hot was NOT. Cher wore BLUE EYE SHADOW (ugh) and a shimmering GOLD dress. Now I could be wrong but I feel makeup should compliment what a lady is wearing and her makeup DID NOT.

In another scene she had on a white dress with some kind of olive floral patern. THe sleeves were very poofy. over the dress she had on an olive bra looking thing.

what were we thinking back then?

If you're a guy, and you want to be all fancy and girly, at least put some
effort into it.

Today I saw a fellow, from the top up: baseball cap, thinning hair, T-shirt,
fanny pack (oy). Down below? The shortest, flimsiest, cut-off-at-the-hem
flower-patterned skirt you have ever seen in your life. I mean, really short.
Obscenely short. Oh-my-gosh-here-comes-a-strong-breeze short.

With black socks and non-descript man shoes.

Hey, I'm all for men wearing skirts, but if you're gonna do it, DO IT.

Your 10 must haves and can't stand

Okay, we all have our own list of must haves and can't stands when it comes to fashion. Why not share them with the Fashion Police tribe. Okay, okay, since you asked, I'll start.

My 10 must haves

1. Two really good, well fitted bras
2. Pretty flip flops
3. Jeans that make my butt look good (no easy trick since it is flat as a pancake)
4. Cool, fashion forward sunglasses that are cheap
5. Interesting, large dangly earrings
6. Ankle boots for the winter
7. Color and more color in my wardrobe
8. My classic burgandy/brown leather trench that hits my knees
9. Good looking and comfy heels
10. The two decorative rings I wear constantly and refuse to take off

My 10 can't stands

1. Women that don't wear the right size bra or are too big to go without a bra, but do it anyway. I don't want to see 4 tits or uni-boob, nor do I need to see the twins down to your kneecaps.

2. The track pant, legging, jean with one pantleg pushed up to the knee and one worn normal. WTF?? It looked stupid in the 80's and it looks stupid now.

3. Young women that wear knee high socks with short skirts or shorts. Honey, if you ain't playing soccor, or over the age of 10, you need to be slapped for wearing that in public.

4. Big girls that wear low, low, low rise jeans with thongs and mid-riff shirts. I'm a big girl and I don't like butt crack no matter who it is that is giving it to me. Mid-riffs are bad enough, mid-riffs with a belly is just scary.

5. Pregnant tummies on display. Ex. Women that wear tiny tops and share the bliss of their 3rd trimester with the rest of the world. I know Madonna did it and I thought it was gross, now Brit.'s doing it too.

I saw a woman walking around the lake with a micro jogging bra on and a pair of track pants. We live in a place that has perfect weather 95% of the time. If it was 100 degrees out with 100% humidity I could try to understand.

6. Men that wear tight shirts and have man-boobs. Again does the whole world have to see this?

7. Tucking in your t-shirt with your jeans and topping it off with a belt. Yikes.

8. Shorts that ride the inside of one's thighs. Right up there with ill fitting bras.

9. Hippie/Bo-ho chic on a man or a woman

10. Stringy long haired perms with too much product on women

Next?

What the hell has gone wrong with society that even Hermes is now offering couture shower thongs!!! ???? I live in a college town, and I suppose dorm living allows many fashion flaws to fester, but the flippity floppity of shower thongs in public has just gone too far. (This stupid girl came to a job interview in shower thongs. What in the hell??????)

Olsen Twins: cavalcade of HORROR

Wondering what ailment afflicts the Olsen twins whenever they attempt to dress is damning. Mary-Kate and Ashley are routinely pictured in tabloids wearing the most hideous outfits. They wear ill-fitting tops, long draggy, skirts. They sometimes seem to have taken their inspiration from disturbed homeless women. Does anyone else out there find the Olsen garb grotesque? Strange?

(because tribe.net, in all their infinite wisdom, has made it impossible for me to view the previous thread -- hey, tribe, whatever you're doing, STOP IT.)

1. Pants with skirts. Hideous with hippies, horrible with girls who should know better.
2. Shoes that make noise. Clickity-clackety.
3. The re-birth of leg-warmers. My calves are the best thing I got going. I will NOT cover them up with yarn.
4. Flared-leg jeans.
5. Girls with ugy feet who insist on wearing toe-baring shoes.
6. Velour track suits. Oy.
7. Collagen lips.
8. Thong sticking out of pants.
9. Thongs in general.
10. Girls who say, "Oh, I have a tattoo, TOO!" and then raise a pant leg (probably flared) to expose a sloppy-ass piece of shit dolphin leaping over a rainbow, on their ankle. What am I supposed to say? "Wow, you did a really nice job picking that off the wall...."

I had this great pair of wraparound shades with reflective lenses, and wore them for months. They allowed me to gape in goggle-eyed horror at really bad outfits. Then I lost them. (Well, I had to give them back to the guy who left them at my house. Whatever.)

Yesterday I was crossing Market Street and some chicky was wearing these awful clickety-clackety shoes -- short heel, with just a tiny strap to barely keep them on the foot. She could barely walk in them. It looked so stupid. And as I looked at her shoes with nausea and disbelief, I realized I was wearing my OTHER sunglasses, the ones that are barely tinted, and she could totally see my expression.

Bad fashion ricochet.

Today I saw a young man wearing a huge, baggy T with a pair of jeans. The waistband was, I kid you not, around his kneecaps. I really wanted to lift up his shirt to see how they were staying on his body.

I can understand the mechanics of the pants being halfway off the ass and still staying up, but I really wondered what the deal was with these pants today. It was a SENSELESS crime against fashion.

I saw a girl walking down Post Street the other day, wearing a retro-patterned green and blue skirt, green tights, and off-white granny boots. Not a great outfit, but not gut-wrenching either. What killed me is that she was totally working the "runway model" walk: slightly pigeon-toed, with lots of sashay in the hips and lots of ridiculous kicky motion in her ankles...

I wanted to trip her.

*drum roll* Burningman: Hippies + Ravers + 'Radical Self Expression' = ??

Okay... so this seems like a hot subject.

LET'S TALK SHIT ABOUT BURNINGMAN FASHION!!!

I'll be honest -- I've been to burningman. I went in 03 after my first big break-up and I had a great time.

But it wasn't the fashion... GOOD LORD it wasn't the fashion.

Even my FRIENDS were dressed stupidly at burningman. Even people I LIKE were almost embarrassing me... and unfortunately, some of these people dress this way when they AREN'T out in the desert.

At burningman it is required that you participate. However, to many people this means partying the whole week. Some people think that wearing 'costumes' is a form of participation. Unfortunately almost all of these costumes look exactly the same.

Some examples:

-- Straight men wearing dresses and skirts. WHAT THE HELL? They get their pink frilly dress and a stupid hat and OMG -- they are expressing themselves. Come ON! I think EVERY guy I saw wearing a dress or skirt at burningman was either straight or bi-straightual... which is FINE, except it makes me wonder if every straight male in the world secretly wants to do drag. Furthermore, I have to wonder why they don't just do it -- and please... try to look GOOD as a woman. Give yourself a shave... get somebody to put some make-up on you. Don't just commit a crime against all that is feminine by putting on a stupid prom dress with sandals and 5 o'clock shadow.

-- Cowboy-leopard-sequin-stripper-furry-blah-blah. Okay... you know what I am talking about... it's a certain 'look.' We've all seen them... they wear furry chaps. Sometimes they are blue. OMG -- Blue furry chaps... whoever HEARD of such a thing? And GET THIS --- SOMETIMES they even have NEON-GREEN ones! Holy shit! Furry chaps that look like a tennis ball???? I can't WAIT to do some E with you... it will be so much fun picking the plastic hairs out of my mouth. And if those weren't amazing enough, the tiger-striped hat BLEW MY MIND!!! I didn't know they HAD tigers in the wild west... it's incredible... and what is MORE amazing is that they are free spirited enough to combine these things with a SEQUIN VEST.... omg... it's just too much... their costume changed my life.

-- Bunny ears. I could rant... I could go on and on... but really, it is self explainatory.. the bunny ears are over. There is no point. Please... just... stop...

*****************

When I was at burningman I DID wear costumes... however, they were ACTUALLY costumes. I had a zombie theme, and I did a different zombie 4 different nights.

- Star Trek zombie (that 4th guy who goes down to the planet)

- Jungle Dj zombie (torn up camo shirt)

- Euro-trash zombie (torn up lycra/reflective shirt with blood coming from nose a la coke over-dose)

It was fun and I didn't see anybody who looked exactly like me... THAT WAS THE POINT! THAT IS THE POINT OF A 'COSTUME!!!' I never saw a SINGLE Star Trek zombie at all of burningman... so THERE YOU FUCKEN LAME-OS!!!

So who 'gets' fashion?

All this talk about ironic fashion got me thinking...

Who do you look up to in fashion? Don't be afraid to admit you like a person's overall look--

For me, I like Gwen Stefani, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keyes, Travis Barker, Chris Isaak, Tina Turner, Oprah Winfrey, David Bowie, Andre 3000, Big Boi.

I'm not informed about particular designers, but I like people who aren't afraid to wear colors or combine genres (like punk and hip hop). I like understated ghetto fabulousness.

I also like people who know how to wear clothes that really flatter their body type (or know how to find stylists to help)--Chris Isaak and Oprah Winfrey have never looked bad--I've seen both in real life and both look perfect. Chris wears crazy ass suits (mirror balls, bright colors) but also has that classic teen idol (Troy Donahue, Rick Nelson) look. Oprah knows how to use color and accessories. Her shoes, jewelry, belts are awesome.

What gives YOU the right to judge?

Perhaps this might cause a bit of drama, but here goes.

I couldn't help but notice the wide variety of people with TERRIBLE fashion sense that are members of this tribe. I will not name names, but I find this alarming.

It's one thing to be critical, but it's another thing to know what you are talking about. You don't have to look like a super-model, a rock-star or a 'high society' type... just don't look like a complete douche-bag and expect anybody to take you seriously when you talk shit.

I've mainly noticed people trash talking 'indie' looks. This is fine to a certain extent -- many indie looks are contrived, repetative and annoying. However, it is a certain look -- it's what these people are going for and like it or not, 'indie-emo-rock' is IN right now. It is totally in style to associate with this culture, so it is kind of unproductive to trash talk everything that resembles it... obviously an indie kid isn't going to listen to fashion advice from a post-raver.

That's as specific as I am going to get... but there are many people on this tribe that I must wonder about. So please, everybody take some time to think about what gives you the right to judge... and perhaps - if you are so daring - explain it to us on this thread.

While shopping, just thiis past week in some of S.F.'s trendier boutiques I was aghast at some of the selections of shirts for men. The western shirt-AWFUL. Please spare me. Hardly cosmopolitan, and really unfashionable. Now it seem's as if , If you don't look like you shop at the gap, you just visited an Arizona thrift shop and walked away with all the merchandise and decided to open a shop full of the goods right here in S.F., really I guess I'll have to go to N.Y. to shop for my spring attire.

enter...THE MURSE

February 21, 2005

Guys are grasping the benefits of carrying, go ahead and say it, a purse

It takes a big man to carry a lady-like bag.

Wallets, cell phones, keys, PDAs, laptop computers - even the deepest of pockets can't hold everything the average guy is hauling around these days. While no-frills nylon gym totes or ho-hum pleather business cases would suffice, men are increasingly open to carrying a bag with a bit of style ... something more refined.

Enter the murse - a masculine version of the purse.

"I use one as a necessity," says Michael Gargiulo, 43, of Manhattan. Gloves, papers, scarf, cigarettes - it all gets tucked into a trendy leather, denim or canvas over-the-shoulder bag as he runs errands or commutes to work in the Bronx. "Why should [only] women get to have one? I need one."

Sure, it might feel a little strange at first.

"It's not like you're carrying a teacup poodle," says "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" fashion guru Carson Kressley. "Get over it."

"It's a matter of practicality and fashion," says Cargo magazine's style director Bruce Pask, who personally favors Lambertson Truex's collection of sumptuous leather and canvas bags. But since the market is brimming with offerings of sleek designer satchels from the likes of Gucci or Bottega Venetta and simple structured carryalls from Jack Spade and Manhattan Portage, men in the market for a murse or manbag can be choosy.

Or not.

Constantine Karonis, 25, who lives in Manhattan, estimates he owns about 15 bags. "I've been carrying one since high school," he says.

His favorite is a slim,

checkerboard-print Louis Vuitton shoulder bag that retails for about $1,200.

"Men are willing to make a bit of an investment," Pask says. A high-end designer suit may be too expensive, but a classy, well-made manbag from the same line is probably going to be more attainable, and a man will use it far more often.

For the uninitiated, a tailored messenger bag is a good start. "Leather always looks great," Kressley says, and there are masculine nylon styles as well.

Though Kressley will break out a Louis Vuitton clutch or short-handled satchel when traveling or running from show to show during Fashion Week, his daily murse is often a simple suede messenger bag.

"You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a great one," Kressley says.

Bold designer handbags and smaller purse-like totes are great accessories for fashion-forward men, but Kressley and Pask acknowledge the average Joe needs a healthy dose of self-confidence to carry them.

"They can look a little too girly for most guys," Kressley says. "That's a look reserved for the true meterosexual."

What the well-dressed bum wears...

---------
Designer fashion for Korean homeless
23 February 2005

SEOUL: Some South Korean homeless are dressing in style after the government gave away thousands of fake designer garments confiscated by customs agents.

The Korea Customs Service distributed more than 3500 fake pieces in the southern city of Pusan this month with the permission of the fashion houses whose designs had been pirated.

A customs official declined to name the designers whose ripped-off creations are now being worn by the homeless but said both they and the state prosecutors had approved giving away the jackets, blouses, shirts and pants.

"We hope this will be of some help to the poor who need practical assistance in such hard times," the official said.

Customs agents removed the labels from the clothes before giving them to a welfare agency for distribution.

South Korea has a vibrant illegal market in pirated designer clothing and customs officials said there would be more handouts.

"We will continue to look for useful ways to pass along the clothes – it saves us the cost of destroying what we have confiscated," the Customs Service said in a statement.

One homeless man, who asked not to be identified, said he appreciated the fancy threads.

"I don't care about the quality of the clothes, but these designs are quite trendy," the recipient said.

Okay white guys, asian guys, and latinos -- LISTEN UP.

If you ever slick your hair backwards with gel, pomade -- ANYTHING...

YOU ARE A TOOL.

You are a douche-bag.

You are suburban trash.

You are a guido.

You are a rice-rocket pilot.

You are a cheesy machismo grease stain.

IT WILL BE DECADES BEFORE YOU MIGHT EVER BE FASHIONABLE, SO GET A FUCKING CLUE AND STOP DOING IT.

I know it gives you the feeling that you are getting ready and looking good.

I know it keeps your hair out of your eyes.

I know you remember guys in gangster movies doing it, and it looked cool then.

But not on you. Not in this decade, last decade, or the decade before that.

Is no good. Is trash.

Fashion citations for January

Okay, I don't know if this "qualifies" as a true fashion citation, but here it goes. I was behind a car yesterday and I could only see the back of this person's head, but what a head it was! We're talking Tina Turner circa 80's hair!! Huge, shaggy, looked like an exotic rooster/chicken head full of feathers. Couldn't distinguish if it were male or female, just that it was really really scary.

Okay fashion police, now it is your turn. Who/what did you see on the street that you would like to turn in for January 2005? No ugg boot stories please unless they come with a really trampy/scary looking person.

Hi, I'm happy to be new here! Question - today I bought a long sweater at Nordstrom. I really like the colors, the weave and the "pattern," but I keep fearing that those longish sweaters are o-u-t. It goes just past my butt (so not too long), and has a tie-belt. What's the verdict? Thanks!

<<<this is the bay area. We still have people running around here in their 70's and upwards that should be entered in the guiness book of world records for world's oldest hippie. >>>>

Beth your above quote (that I hope you don't mind I'm snagging) got me to thinking....what is everyone's take on people that try to dress too old or too young for their ages?
I see guys in their 40's and up that try to do the "hip hop" undies showing baggy jeans thing (which even the hip hoppers dont do much anymore) and it just doesnt look right. Then there of course are the teens and twenty somethings that try to pull off the sophisticated for lack of a better term Bing Crosby look (think the red headed kid on last seasons American Idol ) and it seems like the life has been sucked out of em. Are there or should there be age restrictions/limitations to fashion? I say yes.

Moustached Men

From VH1's Retrosexual:

"Tom Sellec was the last famous man to have a moustache. If you have a moustache now you are either gay, a cop, or a gay-cop."

Hahaha. Semi-true... unless you live in new york -- especially in williamsburg brooklyn or the lower east side. These places were also where the trucker hats started (back in 2000 or so)... so don't underestimate how influencial this place is.

Anyhow, I've been rocking facial hair since i was 17 or so, so it's kind of nothing new. However, having a big fucking cop moustache is really satisfying... and I definitely get a whole bunch of compliments and friends who tell me never to shave it.

People have referred to the look as the 'irony-stash.' Because see, it isn't just that it is gay men who have moustaches... it tends to be gays over 40 or so. So when young gays... or straights for that matter have them, it's a funny thing. Young people haven't had them for so long that it is now daring.

And daring is sexy... especially if you can pull it off. In my book, if I see a young hot guy rockin' a moustache that looks good on him, it's two extra boner points immediately.

Who's with me? Who thinks I'm full of shit?

Heels for women with weird feet

Hi. I want to wear heels from time to time. I'm not talking stilletos sisters. Just a one inch heel.Even a kitten heel will do. I have weird feet though. Really wide across the middle where the toes start, and then skinny all the way back to the ankles.

So I bought some cute semi square toes with a kitten heel. I tried them on at the end of the day since that is the best time to try on shoes. The front felt a little tight, but do-able. The back was good, not too much room in the back.

Today, I tried them on for just a sec to see how they would go with my pants. I thought I was going to die!!! The widest part of my foot was killing me.

I've given up on pointed shoes completely. My foot can't even get into half of them and the larger the size, the more room in the back for them to flop out of.

I can't decide if I should take the shoes to the shoe guy and have him stretch the tight part, or just take them back to the store for a refund. I have a feeling that weird feet require more $$ spent to find the right heel.

Any thoughts on this?

For the chesty ones

Okay, I went shopping yesterday and was looking at the fitted women's shirts with the little bit of lycra in them. I fit in none of them. Why? The boob factor or I just call it the bf for short. The largest size (16) fit well everywhere but right where the middle of the bra hits. I've amassed a fair amount of little gold safety pins to resolve the situation. It kinda works on the blouses. The sweaters were hideous. A chesty woman should not be subjected to wearing a sweater that has a fitted bottom. It's like saying "Hi. Here are my boobs on a platter". One cotton top had ruching(sp?) but not all the way through the middle, so it defeated the point of using ruching. In addition, the neckline was too high. In fact most of the things I saw had high necklines like scoops, or the v neck didn't go deep enough or the fabric was too thin so all anyone would see is my boobs!!! I know it was just one store, but when you are trying to use what works best for you and the fashion trend is no neckline, it makes a girl mad!!!

Equally nauesating were the high collar sweaters with the 3 buttons on the side of the neck (I hated it then and I hate it now) and the boatneck look. Who looks good in those styles, really???

Don't tell me this is a fashion past-time because I saw a woman doing it the other day? Where did this come from and why is it still around?

Okay, anyone watching this besides me? I missed the second season, but my sister told me it was no big deal. There is one girl who got her makeover and I swear she looks like Jerry Hall.

Does anyone else want to slap Janice Dickerson silly? I noticed this time she's not getting any tight reaction shots when they bring the models f2f with the panelists. Maybe she's afraid the light will melt her face off.

Strapless/plunging neckline/low-backed wedding gowns just seem wrong. What exactly is the bride tyring to say?

"I'm giving these ta-ta's to this man for the rest of our lives!"

"There'll be some boogy in THIS back door tonight, mmm-hmm!"

I actually saw an ad for a certain designer in a bridal magazine that showed a heroine-chic raccoon-eyed model in full wedding regalia facing a brick wall in an alley and looking over her shoulder like she was about to get gang-fucked.

Ew.

You know those horrible (well I think they're horrible) little slippers with the mesh tops? The ones that are flat and have little flowers on the mesh crap and come all kinds of colors? Well, I thought I hated them before but now that i've seen them in metallic gold and metallic silver, I really hate them. The metallic silver were just gross! The girl's feet just looked nasty

I can't tell you how many young ladies I saw today rockin the stupid babydoll dress thing over pants or jeans. Why don't these people just pick one and go with it? I hate them both combined! Either wear that nasty sack dress you want to wear or wear jeans. Not both!

And I hate long coats with long skirts ... too much long... And, aforementioned offender was not only wearing a longer coat (like to knee length) and a long, nasty hippie looking skirt, she was wearing socks with platform flipflops... hideous.

....Almost as gross as my cardigan with the big hole in the back that I just discovered.... whaaaa my favorite cardigan! why did no one tell me I had holes in my clothes?

So one of my fun things to do is to comb local thrift and used clothing stores for just the right "wrong" items. I wore a really cool jacket into work one day and my boss said, "Don't I pay you enought not to shop at thrift stores?" Stoopidlee, I answered yes (but that was not the point).

OK self appointed fashion mavens....do you ever shop at thrift stores for clothes, do you incorporate them into your daily wardrobe (other than for "costume wear").

so i went back to taiwan this summer and horrified at the trend this summer... wearing knee high hose with shorts/short skirts and shoes (sneakers, sandals, high heels, whatever!) i saw one girl wearing bright yellow hose with these turquoise sandals!

i took a picture of a girl wearing this style:
http://www.firedrumcircle.org/Eileen/Taiwan04/Fugly.jpg

btw those pointy upturned elf shoes have been trendy there for over 2 years. i can't believe it's lasted this long. they are hideous as well.

Ugh tell me it isn't true! It's made it into the mainstream again. Teal colored t-shirt dresses(shoulder pads of course) with white leather belts!!!

I was in an upscale botique and you can't escape it there either!!
I was surrounded by mini cape thingies that were asymetrical and in pink, teal, etc.

I needed a barf bag!!

It's all Patricia Field's fault. She started dressing Sara Jessica Parker in things that made me wanna puke, and now it won't go away.

They kept threatining to bring it back, but this time they mean it!!! Help!!!

Dress like a skank for High Holidays

Yes, I just wasn't satisfied with adding on to Indica's thread. I had to make this my own topic. When I have kids, they ARE going to have to get dressed up for High Holidays. This isn't time to hang with your friends and show how cool you are by wearing as little as possible. This isn't the time to show your friends how much of a trendiod you are mimicking whatever it was you saw so and so wearing on MTV.

I'm not saying girls should be dressed in boring clothes, but give me a break. What is going through their parent's minds at the time too? They aren't that much better than their kids. Jeans during the Holy of Holy days? Put the Birkenstocks down for just 4 days total and tell your kid that if she wants to walk the streets in that outfit she can after Yom Kippur.

Same goes for boys. No t-shirts and khakis. Leave the skateboard and your game boy, comic books, etc. at home. Dress shirt and pants with a decent shoe please. Tie not necessary.

People, try a little harder! It won't kill you.

The latest fashion trend amongst the fashionless in NYC is the combat preppy -for example an argyle sweater with cammo cargo pants. HIDEOUS!

And a side note to all Fashion Police out there, although it should be a crime to flip the collar up on knit polo shirts legislation has not been passed to arrest Biff and Muffy for this heinous offense. It is, however, possible to cite anyone attempting this fashion flop who fails to starch before they flip. Go get 'em!

I'm sorry that I'm not posting about anything completely heinous but I felt the need to comment about how everyone on my bus in the morning looks the same! I suspect it's because we pick up a large population of the Marina-Yuppie's but honestly, these people make a lot of money, couldn't they use that money to invest in some sort of original fashion? Everyone looks the same! And they look at me like I'm a scrub because I'm wearing sneakers and not pointy black shoes. Excuse me for having to WALK 15 minutes to the bus stop. <sigh> It just really bothers me...

Cos I love fashion but I seriously wonder at the following things:
- those itty bitty paris hilton skirts paired with uggs
- gaggles of girls all wearing the same thing and all looking the same..(i.e. all wearing black heels, 7 jeans (all the same wash, black shirts and all with blond poufy hair).
- those black, lycra, yoga like pants but worn out and about, not to exercise
- wearing all the same color.. from head to toe, including hair color. Yikes!
- wearing a dress over jeans. Pick the dress or the jeans, you can't have both!

And, lastly, I'm not a big fan of pairing combat boots with shorts, skirts, dresses etc.... i just think it's because I hate combat boots period. Unless I were in combat of course

I don't know what these things are called, but they're kind of a bastardization of the good ol' wifebeater/guido-tee (a garment so fucking butch, there's no way to refer to it that isn't offensive to SOMEone), but the arm straps are modified to look less like a part of the shirt and more like straps, and the result (in my opinion, anyway) defeats all the sexiness of those shirts, and makes the person wearing it look as if he should be wearing a tutu skirt. Seriously, I hate those shirts. They're, like, SO gay.

"Gay" as in, you know, "stupid", that is.

Annoying trends in your hamlet?

Hi. Just thougt I'd start a new thread. What trends have you noticed in your town that drive you nuts? Should be avoided at all costs, and yet continue to grow like an out of control fungus that you can't get rid of no matter how hard you try?

Mine is girls and women wearing low rise down to my crotch jeans with tiny tops. It's just wrong! If you are thin, it makes you look emaciated. If you have curves, it's a disaster. Yet this trend won't go away.

This fashion issue came up a couple of weeks ago in Dan Savage's column, Savage Love. Anyone else read it?

So fashionistas, what trend has invaded your town that you can't stand and why?
